We have posted the following information for our customers at the shipping counter. In the interest of providing the best service for our customers during the next month, we ask all customers to make sure you understand what is going on in package shipping this season.
All carriers have staffed up to meet demand for shipping, but we do expect systemic shipping delays due to
High Shipping Demand * Delivery driver shortages
Increased online orders * Winter weather problems
When we quote expected delivery dates, we will tell you the normal delivery and try to advise on expected delays, but many packages will be delayed beyond our control. We recommend carriers with less delays, but it’s only our experienced opinion.
There are no money-back guarantees from any carrier!
SHIP EARLY—MORE IMPORTANT IN 2021 THAN EVER
We are hoping for a more "normal" holiday season than 2020, although we were crazy busy last year (people couldn't travel and had to ship more gifts to family and friends instead of visiting in person).
Starting next week, our Saturday hours will switch to 9am to 4pm, and we will add Sundays December 12th and 19th from 11am to 3pm. Check later for changes during the actual holiday weeks. Like many businesses these days, PDQ has had staffing issues, but we are a lot closer to full now than we were; we thank you for your patience as some of our newer staff gets up to speed.
PDQ Mask Rules, based on CDC and NY State recommendations:
FOR FULLY VACCINATED CUSTOMERS: Masks will NOT be required, but with the Delta variant spread, we strongly recommend that all customers wear masks while in PDQ Mail Plus. Remember that using masks and social distancing are the best ways for our community to minimize the spread of the virus; it protects all of us, no matter what your personal status with the virus happens to be.
For NON-VACCINATED CUSTOMERS (and partially vaccinated customers): MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED.
We will operate on the honor system. It is the duty of each customer to act in a responsible way to help us maintain a COVID-free space at PDQ. Customers with obvious symptoms may be asked to use a mask or leave the store.
PDQ staff has been vaccinated. We will continue to practice social distancing and extra cleaning where possible, and work to maintain a COVID-free environment for our staff, customers, and shipping carrier suppliers.
GOOD NEWS - BANNERS AND SIGNS ARE BACK! We are please to let everyone know that our banner and sign program is back in operation. We had technical issues with the program that have been resolved. Check out the options for our high-quality banners, signs, and lots more.
NEW INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS REGULATIONS. Effective March 15, 2021 there are new customs requirements for virtually all of Europe - all 27 EU countries plus Norway and Switzerland (for now, not the UK due to Brexit). For each item, we wil need to find and include the harmonized code to properly classify each item in the shipment. This will help ensure the proper duties and taxes are assigned to each shipment, and will help to expedite customs clearance for these packages. This regulation applies to all carriers and all shippers. And it would not surprise us to see this requirement be rolled out to more countries in the foreseeable future.
We ask each customer with a package to these countries to bring with them an accurate list of items in the package; we must provide a detailed description for each item - words like "clothing", "electronics" "personal effects" or "gift" just won't cut it. If we can't itemize properly, your recipient (and possibly you, the shipper) are liable to pay higher duties and taxes on the shipment, as well as significantly slow down the customs clearance process and delay delivery. For example, a cotton t-shirt will have a different code than a ladies' silk designer shirt. We understand that this can be a somewhat tedious practice, but it has to be done. We have access to the database of codes and will do our best to properly describe each item with you - that's why PDQ is your local shipping expert.
PREPAID DROPOFF PACKAGES. If you will be dropping off prepaid packages, we ask that you make sure your name and phone number is on the package; we have found a number of packages dropped off that were missing the correct label or documentation, and we had no way to reach the customer who returned it. So this is for your benefit to get the package returned as quickly as possible. We can't give it to the proper carrier if the label and documents are missing.
We are tring to do our best to manage our customers' needs while observing the social distancing practices, and appreciate that most customers understand why we have changed. It's all in the name of keeping our staff and customers safe and healthy. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. If you have any concerns about our COVID-related procedures, please let us know and we will do our best to adjust to improve our service for everyone.
We have limited space in the store, and ask customers to wait their turn outside the store if necessary; a box is just inside the door to accept prepaid dropoff packages (please make sure your name and phone # are on the package in case there are questions). The locked mailbox lobby is available 24/7, and we ask our mailbox customers to observe social distancing if another customer is in that lobby collecting their mail. When we are open, the mailboxes are still accessible from the main store, although we recommend using the separate mailbox entrance whenever possible.
Along with constant cleaning of all surfaces, door handles, etc, our staff is taking extra precautions, using masks and gloves as much as possible (constant hand washing is recommended for most people). We ask all customers to comply with social distancing and all recommended safety precautions as well.
BIG NEWS AT PDQ! PDQ Mail Plus is now a part of a new national retail brand - PACKAGEHUB BUSINESS CENTERSTM. There are already over 375 locations in the 49 states that have been approved.
Just so you know, PDQ will continue to operate exactly as we have for the past 28 years, and will offer all the same services you have come to appreciate at PDQ. The new network will help with marketing and allow us to act as a group with other similar stores across the country. Lots more great stuff to come!
